Emily Breister, LPC-IT

Hello and welcome! My name is Emily, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor In Training. I know how scary it is to feel stuck and alone, and I am here to help you through it. When it feels like your world is upside down, I want to work together to help you get back on a path of healing and wellness.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Lawrence University majoring in psychology and neuroscience and minoring in biology. I am fascinated with the brain and understanding our internal experiences as they relate to the outside world. I believe that the better we are able to know and understand ourselves, the fuller our lives can be.

I earned my masters degree at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in clinical mental health counseling. My experience in the mental health field includes work in inpatient, partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and outpatient settings, where I have focused my training on treating obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, and neurodivergence. I enjoy bringing creativity into therapy sessions as much as I can, and I have had the opportunity to create and develop new group therapy intervention guides for other therapists as well. I utilize a variety of evidence-based approaches in therapy, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)
  • Polyvagal Theory

My love for learning did not end in the classroom. I believe it is important for therapists to learn from and with their clients in the therapeutic relationship as that is where some of the biggest growth happens. My personal journey through trauma and OCD has led me to experience the mental health field as a patient as well as a provider, which allows me to bring genuine empathy and understanding into every session.

When I am not in the office, you can find me with my nose in a book or spending time with my family and friends. I love being outside in the summer and enjoy spending time by the lake or playing pickleball. I also have a creative side, and I love to paint!

I am so glad you are here, and I look forward to the possibility of working together.
